NEHEP Dissemination Program with TU

University Grants Commission organized the dissemination program on Nurturing Excellence in Higher Education Program (NEHEP) with Tribhuvan University on 25th May 2022 at Institute of Engineering, Pulchok, Lalitpur. NEHEP is a five-year program supported by the World Bank/IDA that strategically aims to strengthen labor market relevance and quality of higher education, boost collaborative research and innovation, and enhance equitable access for underprivileged and disaster-affected groups. The program was primarily aimed to disseminate the detail provisions and support system to high level officials of Tribhuvan University. UGC is the main implementing institution and TU is the subsidiary implementing agency of NEHEP.

The program mainly discussed on the guidelines and provisions made for different disbursement linked indicators (DLI) of the program. Presentations were also made on the guidelines such as Labor market-driven autonomous courses, faculty members training and academic leaders’ sensitization, Collaborative research and entrepreneurship program, Quality Assurance and Accreditation, and Quality Enhancement, Performance Based Grants, Enrollment of disadvantaged students and in lagging and/or disaster affected provinces, Online teaching, learning and digitized administration, Financial Policy and Standards and Safeguard management. Interaction was also made to take feedbacks from the participants in the program.

UGC Secretary Prof. Shankar Prasad Bhandari in his welcome speech highlighted the rational of the program and briefed about NEHEP Operations Manual. He also shared the initial preparatory activities of the program and the way forward for the next phase of implementation activities. World Bank Task Team Leader Prof. Mohan Prasad Aryal shared about the reform activities on higher education supported by the World Bank and importance of the program for enhancing the quality higher education in Nepal. Rector of the TU Prof. Shiva Lal Bhushal remarked that the program will be milestone for academic and administrative reforms of the university and hoped the program will support the projects initiated by the university.

UGC Chairman Prof. Bhim Prasad Subedi said that the program has been designed to support the National Higher Education Program Framework (NHEP 2021-2030, ) approved by the UGC last year and it will be an instrumental to fulfill the objectives set by the NHEP. He also thanked the World Bank for partnering with the government and UGC in funding such a relevant program and insisted on the collaborative effort of all stakeholders for effective implementation of the program. Delivering closing remarks, he also expressed his happiness that the program come to implementation stage and organizing such a dissemination program.
